Growing up in a rural community and living in San Francisco for five plus years has cultivated a deep passion for working alongside children, adults and nonprofits of all types. Being a connector and bridge builder for success brings great joy to my life, especially seeing another individual get what they need to succeed. With Education and Program Development as my background for over 20 years I have honed my strengths around; Building collaboration and personality awareness with co-workers, clients and stakeholders, Enhancing Youth Programs, Grant Writing, Training Development, as well as Inspiring and Implementing Systemic Change!
It was during the time that I was working as the Director for seven Afterschool and Summer Programs and completing my Masters in Educational Leadership that my love deepened for understanding societal problems, providing solutions and guiding others on how to be solution oriented.
Moving to “City” of San Francisco was an eye opening experience for this small town girl!! The different communication styles with friends, acquaintances, colleagues and strangers was overwhelming at first, yet exhilarating to learn. As a Senior Community Development Specialist, I found myself; managing and scoring grants, planning city-wide After-school and Summer Youth Programs, and facilitating Racial Equity conversations for departmental changes. My scope of impact on individuals and nonprofits grew beyond what I could have imagined. I realized there was a need for bridging the gap between Urban and Rural so in 2017 I started a nonprofit that supports the economic sustainability of rural communities working remotely for urban companies. Then in 2019 started Safken Consulting with my husband, where we support businesses and nonprofits with increasing their bottom line. Looking forward to bridging the gap with you!
